Blakemore Wholesale Distribution is one of the UK’s leading delivered wholesalers, servicing multiple and independent retailers, forecourts, vending operators, fellow wholesalers plus education, leisure and hospitality sites. Blakemore Wholesale Distribution provides access to a comprehensive range of ambient, chilled and frozen product lines, and other non-food products.
In 2021 a Greenfield site in Bedford was found for AF Blakemore & Son state of the art new Distribution Centre, including fitout design and installations including security, access control and ELV provisions, Insulated Structure Design, Refrigeration Design, Sustainability and BREEAM services.

So, what was our solution?
Installation
The installation of the below equipment in relevant areas, include for the interconnecting refrigerant pipework, pipework insulation, electrical wiring, fittings, drain work, initial charge of refrigerant, oil & glycol.
Key Capital Plant Includes:-
Ground & first floor level: Compressor, vessel, evaporative condensers, ventilation, water treatment, lighting / emergency lighting, leak detection, pumps (Glycol, cold, warm & heater mat), Air Purger. Switch room control panels, air conditioning, pressurisation fan / filter, emergency trench shower.
Freezer Cold Store: Coolers, valve stations, leak detection inside store & roof void, emergency extract system, condensate waste, anti-frost heave protection mat (within sub-floor).
Chill Cold Area: Air Coolers (Evaporators) valve stations, leak detection inside store & roof void, emergency extract system, condensate waste + Banana Room Heating & Cooling + De Humidification System
Compliance: Written Scheme of Examination, DSEAR Report / Risk Assessment & ATEX Certification
EJM Refrigeration equipment was installed throughout the chilled warehouse. One key function was the crucial design co-ordination working with the Builders McLaren M&E design team, incorporating the refrigeration equipment into the building model.
- Objective – Ensure equipment layout and associated services avoid other critical services but maintaining the desired refrigeration requirement.
- With his skills EJM’s designer / CAD Engineer demonstrated how the refrigeration model would fit the concept. This also included clash detection with all other trades on site.

The successfully installed refrigeration plant and the distribution outlet was completed and AF Blakemore & Son took ownership July 2021. EJM Engineered Systems Ltd, after sales team provide a comprehensive maintenance support with 24/7 call out availability.
