We’re sure you’ve noticed – it’s rather warm at the moment! As this mini – but extra hot – heatwave sweeps across the UK, many of us are wishing we had the luxury of an air conditioning system installed in our home.

Sadly, the majority of us don’t have this! So we thought we’d bring you some hints and tips for getting through these warm days…

Tip 1: Hydration is Key! – Common sense we know, but when you’re busy working or running family life, it does sometimes slip our minds. Make sure you drink plenty of water during high temperatures, if you’re likely to forget, fill a water bottle and keep it with you at all times.

Tip 2: Turn down the Temperature! – Taking a shower or bath? Then turn down the temperature and allow cool water to bring down your body temperature. A cold shower is a great way to cool off quickly when you’re feeling a little too hot!

Tip 3: Close out the Sun! – Keep your curtains/blinds closed during the warmest parts of the day when the sun’s at it’s highest. This prevents it shining into your home and helps keeps room temperatures cooler – much more comfortable when you go to bed!

Tip 4: Change Your Sheets! – Cotton is known to be one of the cooler materials as it’s more breathable than others. So when it’s super-warm, replace any other bedding materials with cotton for a cooler and hopefully more peaceful sleep.

Tip 5: Eat Cold! – No one wants to be standing over the cooker for hours in the heat, so eat cool foods such as salads, cold meats, sandwiches and fruit. You can even pop some fruit in the freezer to turn it into a super-cold treat!

Even though many of us love the sun and want to soak it up as much as possible on those rare occasions it makes an appearance, extreme temperatures can be dangerous, so make sure you take care of yourself and those around you during these times!
