Well, no matter how much it pains us to say it – summer is starting to leave us, and autumn / winter are on their way. It’s time to pack up our summer wardrobe, bring out those cosy coats and, more than likely, switch our air con units from cool to heat.
However, before you flick that switch, there are some measures you can take to ensure your air con remains in top condition over the winter and runs smoothly during the colder months.
The first thing to do is check your filters! Lots of use over the summer can often cause a little clogging, so it’s always best to either clean or even replace these. Not only will you receive better air quality, but the unit itself will also run much more efficiently.
Clean your unit! Yep, units can also get covered in dust, dirt, and all kinds of nasties that can cause operational issues. So, make sure you give it a good clean before turning from cool to warm air. Any units outside should be cleared of grass, weeds, bird droppings, and anything else that holds the potential to cause problems.
Never get carried away with the heat! Yep, seriously, it might be cold in the office but don’t turn it up too high. For the unit to perform at its best you should keep the temperature between 21-22 degrees Celsius. This is also a great way to save between 5 – 10% on energy consumption.
To avoid turning up the heat too much, make sure you do a full check of the space you are in, whether this be at work or home. Are your windows sealed properly? Are draughts getting in? Often, the reason rooms are so cold is due to old window seals or small gaps letting in cold air.
Maintaining your air con unit throughout the year really can prevent expensive fixes, which is why it’s so important to book in for regular service and maintenance. This is where we can help; you can find out more information about our service and maintenance on our website, or just give us a call and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements with you!
